The truth about StarForce drivers

64-bit OS & StarForce support (Windows XP x64, Windows Server 2003 x64, Windows Vista x64)

Driver update for Windows Vista x64 (64-bit)

Windows Vista x64 requires that all the drivers have the digital signature. If any driver does not have a digital signature, Windows Vista x64 is not loaded until the driver is removed.

How do I know which protection version is installed for the application I use?

Find the protect.dll file in the protected application folder (the file can have another name, but it always has the .dll extension), right-click it and select Properties. Select Version tab then. The protection version number is in the BuildSignature (or BuildInfo) section.

Of course, the old protection driver versions without Windows Vista support did not have the digital signature. Therefore, launching the old protection versions for Windows Vista x64 should be performed as follows.

  1. Launch the protected application with the rights of administrator.
  2. Allow driver installation
  3. Reject reboot (otherwise the OS will not load in Normal mode)
  4. Update drivers
  5. Reboot the OS.

Protection versions
Older than 3.05

These versions will never be able to work with 64-bit OS.

StarForce offers FREE re-protection for all the developers and publishers of the programs that utilize version below 3.05 to release the appropriate patches. Please contact your sales manager for re-protection and further details.*

3.05 and later These versions support working with 64-bit OS with the corresponding restrictions in case of Windows Vista x64 (described above).
